Winter Holidaying in Nepal

Are you thinking of visiting Nepal in winter? Is winter holidaying in Nepal a good idea?

Many people think of Nepal only as a trekking and climbing destination. From trekkers and climbers’ perspectives, Nepal is good to visit during autumn and spring only as the best seasons. The highest Mt. Everest was also summitted in spring on 29th of May 1953 for the first time by Sir Edmond Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa. It is absolutely true that the best trekking months are September, October, November, March, April and May whereas the climbers consider March, April, May as the best months for mountaineering expeditions. However, peaks below 6,500 meters regarded as NMA peaks and are regulated by Nepal Mountaineering Association for issuing permits. Climbing of NMA peaks can be attempted in both seasons- during spring and autumn.

Then the question comes what can be done in winter in Nepal? There are many short and small hiking trails ideally suitable for both trekking in winter and summer. These trails are fairly easy and good for family and children. Likewise, the trekking trails are not far from the main cities and offer some majestic views of the Himalayan panorama and the villages passing through are rich on their cultural diversity. Generally, a pair of good trekking boots and warm gears are necessary to trek in winter season. Some activities can be associated with small hikes such as Jungle Safari tour, Paragliding, Bunji jump and cultural tours. Thus, we are suggesting some combined itineraries for winter holidaying in Nepal.
