The one-hour long Trans-Himalayan flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa is one of the best flights in the world that offers the breathtaking view of the Mount Everest (8,848m/29,028ft) and other great mountains bordering Nepal and Tibet. 'Lhasa' in Tibetan language means 'the land of Lords'. Lhasa is the capital city of the Tibet Autonomous Region of People’s Republic of China located at the north bank of Kyichu River at an altitude of 3,600 meters (11,811ft) above sea level. In Lhasa, there are plenty of scenic spots and historical attractions such as the Potala Palace of the Dalai Lama with thirteen storey and 1000 rooms, Norbulingka, the summer palace of the Dalai Lama, Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery and Jokhang Temple-the holiest shrine of Tibet. King Songtsen Gampo was the first Tibetan ruler to establish a palace on this outcrop. The total height of the Potala is 117 meters. Sera means 'hailstone' in the Tibetan language. Sera Monastery is located at 5km north of Lhasa. Sera Monastery together with Ganden Monastery and Drepung Monastery in Lhasa are known as the 'three Great Monasteries of Tibet'. The Drepung Monastery is located at 8km west of Lhasa and is one of the three great Gelukpa Monasteries. Jokhang Temple formerly called the Trulnang Temple or temple of ‘magical appearance’ – erected by King Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century.

Season for Tibet Travel:
Tibet travel is ideally good for the period of March through October. The best times considered to visit are spring, early summer and late autumn. Because of Tibet's high altitude, it is wiser to get prepared before starting the journey. Due to the large temperature differences during the day, warm clothes should be taken to keep away the cold. Since the land also receives a great deal of sunshine; sunglasses, sunscreen and a sun hat are indispensable items that are required while travelling in Tibet.
