Tibet Everest Base Camp and Mt Kailash

Overview

The trip to Everest Base Camp and Mt Kailash in Tibet commences by taking the hour long flight from Kathmandu in Nepal to Tibet we will cross the main Himalayan range with magnificent mountain views. We spend time in Lhasa, staying right in the centre of the old city. This will allow both plenty of time for acclimatisation and easy access to the city's main attractions - the Potala Palace and the Jokhang Temple. Leaving we will travel through this amazing country, staying in the best traditional hotels Tibet has to offer. In the towns of Gyantse and Shigatse we explore further monasteries and fully immerse ourselves in the Buddhist culture.

Because of its religious associations, many Hindu, Buddhist and pilgrims have been drawn to the area of the mountain for the past two thousand years or so to see it, offer prayers, absolve sins, circumambulate it and to practice meditation. South of Mount Kailash, across the base of the majestic Mount Gurla Mandhata, are the two lakes Manasarovar and Raksas Tal (lake). They are the highest bodies of fresh water in the world, with Manasarovar (330 sq. km), at 4,558 meters, about fifteen meters higher than Raksas Tal.

On this trip, we will follow the Friendship Highway through some of the most amazing landscape on Earth. We'll pass small Tibetan settlements, nomadic herdsmen wandering across the wide arid plains and awe-inspiring mountain peaks. Equally as fascinating is the wealth of cultural interest and we will have plenty of opportunity to explore this side of Tibet.
Without doubt, a highlight of this trip is the visit to Everest Base Camp,

Our journey ends crossing the Friendship Bridge, which spans the Bhote Koshi River and marks the Chinese - Nepalese border.

Note: Tibet is a cold and dry land and travelling to Tibet in summer is found to be more popular, however some of our clients have recommended that travelling in Tibet in winter is “good” if you are interested in the cultures and festivals of Tibet.
