Jiri to Everest Base Camp

Overview

The trek from Jiri to Everest Base Camp follows in the footsteps of Hillary and the famous1953 Everest Expedition, the spectacular scenery of the Himalayan mountains and the surrounding landscapes make this 21 day trek one of the most popular in Nepal. The district covered in this trek is known as Solu-Khumbu, the lower part being in the Solu region and the upper section the Khumbu region. Mount Everest is in the latter part and is within the Sagarmatha National Park – Sagarmatha being the Nepalese name for Mount Everest – which is also a World Heritage Site. The Sagarmatha National Park holds an abundance of flora and fauna and the “Yeti” (the abominable snowman) is an ongoing unsolved mystery! During April and May many expedition teams use the Everest Base Camp trail as they head for greater heights, spurred on with expectations of reaching the summit.

Some of the highlights of the trek include spectacular views of Mt Everest and the notorious Khumbu ice flow, staying at Gorak Shep and climbing Kala Patthar (5545m / 18,192ft) the highest point of our trek to see the sunrise over Everest, breathtaking panoramic views over the mountains on the flights to and from Lukla, Namche Bazaar the administrative centre of the Khumbu and the Sherpa hometown, Tengboche monastery but to name a few.
