Mardi Himal |
OverviewMardi Himal situated in the Annapurna Region of Nepal is a perfect introduction to mountaineering in the high Himalayas. Because the round trip takes a little over two weeks it makes this expedition available to those who have only a limited time. Mardi Himal located in the east of the Modi Khola is separated from Mt Machhapuchhare ridge by a col and is the name of the long rising ridge and its summit; (5588m) (18,500ft) which forms the south westerly slope of Machhapuchhare. Machhapuchhare better known as ‘Fishtail’ because of its twin peaks is considered by the local population as particularly sacred to the god Shiva and for this reason climbing is not permitted. The route to Mardi Himal is not technically difficult but requires effort and can sometimes have problems with route finding. Taking you into one of the rarely visited trekking trails in Nepal the trek is designed to provide some exceptional mountain views, to get away from the teahouse trails and into the forests and villages that have not yet felt the impact of tourism. The ridges are steep sided and heavily wooded with rhododendron and bamboo. Above the forest high alpine pastures provide grazing and a peaceful habitat for wildlife. A trek to Mardi Himal (5588m) offers scenic mountain views of Mt. Annapurna (8091m), Mt. Machhapuchhare (6997m) and Mt. Hiunchuli (6441m). When in Pokhara visit the International Mountain Museum and also the Gurkha Museum. Trek Classification
