Ghorepani-Poonhill-Ghandruk |
OverviewGhorepani-Poonhill-Ghandruk trek is in the foothills to the north of Pokhara in Nepal and is perhaps the most popular of the shorter treks in this area. Following a well developed trail we have spectacular mountain views, pass through charming villages inhabited particularly by the Gurungs and Magars, dense rhododendron and alpine forests full of birds and deep sub-tropical valleys. All this set below the Annapurnas with the picturesque peak of Machhapuchhare (Fishtail Peak) dominating the skyline. We pass through Ghandruk a large traditional Gurung village while Ghorepani is the settlement below the famed vantage point of Poonhill (3193m). Poonhill at sunrise is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the trek with beautiful panoramic views of snow capped mountains including Dhaulagiri (8167m), the 7th highest mountain in the world, and Annapurna (8,091m). When in Pokhara visit the International Mountain Museum and also the Gurkha Museum. Trek Classification
