Annapurna Base Camp

Overview

Annapurna Base Camp is one of the classics treks in Nepal, also known as the Sanctuary trek named because of the natural amphitheatre of mountains in which it is surrounded. This route is rich with spectacular views of some of the highest mountains in the world; Annapurna I and III, Annapurna South, Hiun Chuli and Machhapuchhare (Fishtail). This is not a difficult trek though it has some steep climbs. En route to the Sanctuary we pass through the typical Magar and Gurung villages whose people make up the famous Gurkha regiments, trek through Chhomrong with its rhododendron and bamboo forests. We climb above the Modi Khola River which takes us into the Sanctuary where we have magnificent views of the surrounding mountains from Machhapuchhare Base Camp (3480m). It takes about 1 hour to reach Annapurna Base Camp (3900) the highest point on our trek.

We have spectacular mountain views from Annapurna Base Camp, sunrise and mountain views from Poonhill with views of Dhaulagiri (8167m) the 7th highest mountain in the world. When in Pokhara visit the International Mountain Museum and also the Gurkha Museum.
