Environment

Trekking Encounters is a company that is dedicated to sustainable eco-tourism; we are committed to preserving our environment by conserving water, supporting the use of renewable resources and minimising the use of plastic bottles, canned food and other waste products. We supply all our clients with safe and purified water instead of bottled water. We send our guides and porters to training programmes and eco-workshops throughout Nepal, which enables them to understand the importance of the environment. We also give awareness messages in the conservation of natural resources to the local people as our guides pass through the villages. A simple example is they can ask people to reduce the cutting down of trees for fuel by using kerosene or a solar system.

We are life members of the Kathmandu Environmental Education Project (KEEP) and their UK representatives.

KEEP
Signing Partnership with KEEP

KEEP is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation. Its aims are twofold: to provide impartial and independent information to travellers, and to ensure the future ecological and cultural prosperity of Nepal through positive impact tourism and outreach project work. Click here for more information.

The Kathmandu Environmental Education Project aims to help minimize the negative influences of tourism by advocating and promoting "minimum impact trekking", and through presentations and lectures to travellers and trekking industry professionals. These presentations sensitize visitors and Nepalese to issues of conservation and culture.

In the field, KEEP spreads its message to local Nepalese by offering training and courses on nature conservation, on basic and intermediate English for trekking guides and lodge owners, as well as first aid training, eco-trekking workshops, and courses on ecological thinking, Positive Impact Tourism, and regenerative handicraft skills, among others. Recently KEEP has become involved in programmes aimed at poverty alleviation and the empowerment of women.
