Mt. Baruntse Expedition (7129m) |
OverviewMt Baruntse is a mountain situated close to Makalu in Eastern Nepal. Crowned by four peaks and bounded to the South by the Hunku glacier and on the East by the Barun glacier and to the North West by the Imja glacier. Mt Baruntse is one of the most beautiful 7000m peaks in Nepal. Its first ascent was 30 May 1954 via the South ridge by a New Zealand expedition. Mt Baruntse provides a great challenge and is an ideal objective for those who have previously climbed to around 6000m. It is considered objectively safe and offers a tremendously rewarding climb among the World’s highest peaks. Summit day includes spectacular views of Lhotse, Everest and Makalu. The expedition will approach Baruntse via one of two options depending on the weather situation and local logistics. Mt Baruntse is an impressive and straightforward 7000m peak. Expeditions and Trekking PeaksAll our expeditions and trekking peaks are supported by satellite phone, walkie-talkie, support oxygen (when required), Portable Altitude Chamber and comprehensive first aid medical kit. We only use top quality expedition tents manufactured in Europe. High Altitude WarningSafety is a major consideration during all our expeditions however there are dangers involved in climbing 6000m, 7000m and 8000m peaks that cannot be avoided. The extreme altitude, weather, cold and other mountaineering hazards ensure high altitude climbing has unavoidable risks at the best of times, members of our expeditions need to be aware of these dangers and accept that they are an integral part of high altitude mountaineering. Experience RequiredThe Mt Baruntse expedition is suitable for those who have experienced 5000m and 6000m peaks. It is a great opportunity to be introduced to a 7000m+ peak. Although it is considered objectively safe ideally you should have some previous Alpine and Scottish mountaineering experience or equivalent. The grade is 3D. Our Scottish weekend meets will provide you with comprehensive preparations.
